Numerous articles and social media posts suggest that the colored stripe indicates the type of ingredients contained in the toothpaste:
Green = natural
Blue = natural + medicinal
Red = natural + chemical
Black = all chemicals
It seems useful, but there is a big problem.
The reality: it’s a trademark
Those colorful brands are not intended for consumers at all.
They’re called “reference marks” or “registration marks” and are used during the manufacturing process. Machines read these marks to determine where to cut, fold, or seal the package.
