PART 1
Emiliano Duarte turned off the lights in his residence in Lomas de Chapultepec, picked up a suitcase, and kissed his two daughters as if that morning were completely normal.
“It will only be 3 days,” he promised them with a calm smile. “Be good.”
Daniela, 11, hugged him tightly. Martina, 7, stayed pressed against his chest for a few more seconds, clutching a stuffed rabbit.
None of them knew that their father was lying.
The private plane never took off for Europe. There was no business meeting, no hotel reservation, and no dinner with investors.
Less than an hour later, Emiliano returned through the service entrance accompanied only by Ramiro, his head of security.
I didn’t want to surprise anyone.
I wanted to observe.
The night before, Patricia, his fiancée, had dropped a hint of suspicion during dinner.
“You trust Rosa too much,” he said in a low voice. “She steals things from you and is manipulating the girls to turn them against me.”
Emiliano refused to believe him.
Rosa had been working in the house for almost 5 years. She was discreet, responsible, and knew every detail about the girls: how Daniela liked her rolls, what song calmed Martina, and where they kept their homework.
But Patricia had been sowing doubts for weeks.
First, a bracelet disappeared.
She then said that the girls obeyed the maid more than her.
He then claimed that Rosa would go through drawers, listen to conversations, and behave as if the house belonged to her.
The doubt didn’t come all at once. It crept in little by little, like dampness through a wall.
That’s why Emiliano faked the trip.
From a hidden monitoring room, he observed the cameras installed in the common areas of the residence.
At first, everything seemed normal.
Rosa cleared the breakfast plates. Daniela finished her milk. Martina colored a picture. The gardeners left and the driver closed the gate.
Then Patricia appeared in the room.
Her face changed as soon as she realized Emiliano was far away.
The elegant smile disappeared.
“What did I tell you about sitting here?” he snapped.
The girls jumped in fright.
Daniela closed her book immediately. Martina lowered her gaze and clutched her rabbit.
They didn’t react like children surprised by a scolding.
They reacted like little girls who already knew what was coming.
Patricia snatched the stuffed animal from Martina and threw it onto the sofa.
—When your dad’s not around, I’m in charge here. Got it?
Daniela approached her sister and took her hand.
Rosa entered from the hallway.
—Miss Patricia, they didn’t do anything wrong.
Patricia spun around with a fury that froze Emiliano in front of the screens.
—Did I ask for your opinion?
—No, ma’am.
—Then remember your place.
Rosa did not answer, but she stood in front of the girls.
Patricia smiled strangely, opened her bag and took out a small velvet box.
Emiliano recognized the missing bracelet.
The woman walked to Rosa’s room and, looking directly at the girls, said to them:
—Today you’re going to learn what happens when someone tries to take what’s mine.
And what Patricia did next left Emiliano with his hand frozen on the door button, unable to believe what was about to happen…

PART 2
On the screen, Patricia opened Rosa’s dresser drawer and put the bracelet under a pile of uniforms.
Then he returned to the room as if nothing had happened.
“Daniela, go get the house phone,” he ordered. “We’re going to call your dad to tell him we found the thief.”
Daniela didn’t move.
Patricia approached until she was standing in front of her.
—I’m talking to you.
“Rosa didn’t steal anything,” the girl murmured.
The blow was not with the hand.
Patricia took Daniela’s book and threw it against the wall.
—Don’t contradict me again.
Martina started to cry. Rosa wanted to approach, but Patricia raised a finger.
—Not one step further. As soon as Emiliano sees the bracelet in your room, you’re going to jail.
Rosa took a deep breath and looked at the girls.
—Go up to your room, please.
“No,” Patricia said. “They’re staying. I want them to see how the trash is taken out of this house.”
Emiliano stood up suddenly.
Ramiro blocked his path.
—Sir, wait. There is something else you should see.
-Anything else?
The head of security pointed to another screen. The hallway camera showed Daniela discreetly slipping a small recorder into her skirt pocket.
Emiliano remained motionless.
His daughter was gathering evidence.
An 11-year-old girl had understood what her father, with all his money and power, had refused to see.
In the living room, Patricia picked up the phone and pretended to dial.
“It’s a shame your father is flying,” she said. “We’ll have time to get everything ready before he gets back.”
Rosa looked at her firmly.
—Prepare what?
Patricia let out a dry laugh.
—Your dismissal. The complaint. And the version the girls are going to tell.
Daniela squeezed the recorder into her pocket.
—We’re not going to lie.
Patricia crouched down in front of her.
“Of course, darling. You’ll say you saw Rosa go into the dressing room. Your sister will say she found the bracelet. And if they deny it, I’ll tell their father that Rosa put those ideas in their heads.”
“Dad will believe us,” Martina said through tears.
-Really?
Patricia arranged her hair with a false sweetness.
